Struck at the Bombay Mint in 1908, this British Trade Dollar was never really intended for Britain.
It was created for something much bigger:
Trade across Asia.
At the turn of the 20th century, merchants conducting business throughout China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya and the wider Far East relied heavily on large silver coins.
Britain wanted its own internationally recognisable silver trade coin capable of competing in these markets.
The result was the:
British Trade Dollar.
This particular example, catalogued as Pridmore 18, has been independently certified by PCGS as AU53.
