A classic 1875-A French Gold 20 Francs, struck at the Paris Mint during the early years of the French Third Republic.

The obverse features the celebrated Génie de la France (Genius of France), designed by Augustin Dupré, depicted writing the French Constitution upon a tablet. A fasces appears to the left and a cockerel to the right, with the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE surrounding the design.

The reverse displays the denomination 20 FRANCS and date 1875 within an oak wreath, accompanied by the A mintmark, identifying production at the Paris Mint. The national motto LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ surrounds the design.

French 20 Franc gold coins became an important international trade coin and were struck to the standards of the Latin Monetary Union, giving them an important place in the development of European monetary history.
